December is always an interesting time in terms of petrol price trends. Generally speaking, retailers hold off on increasing fuel prices during the last few days prior to Christmas, meaning that prices may either jump next week, or the current pump prices around the country will remain stable well into the holiday period. Sydney will most likely experience stability, while Melbourne and Brisbane markets may enter a high cycle next week.
Brisbane
Current ULP average: 169.4cpl
Price range over the last week: 143.9cpl – 193.9cpl
Brisbane is still 1-2 weeks away from the bottom of their fuel price cycle, however, petrol price trends have definitely shown a drop over the past week.
Sydney
Current ULP average: 178.2cpl
Price range over the last week: 143.9cpl – 193.9cpl
Retailers have priced ULP in the 180 – 190 range this week, indicating Sydney has reached the peak of their fuel price cycle.
Melbourne
Current ULP average: 160.3cpl
Price range over the last week: 140.0cpl – 194.9cpl
With the considerable drop in fuel price trends over the past 7 days, it is likely that Melbourne will experience another petrol price cycle prior to Christmas.
Adelaide
Current ULP average: 144.3cpl
Price range over the last week: 135.8cpl – 184.9cpl
With the pump price of ULP reaching the 184.9cpl mark at several retailers around the city, this is indicative of the new price cycle for Adelaide. With that in mind, more retailers are likely to follow suit and hike up their fuel prices.
Perth
Current ULP average: 164.2cpl
Price range over the last week: 141.8cpl – 193.9cpl
The Perth price cycle has hit the midway point, with the next price drop due on Tuesday the 14th.
Darwin
Current ULP average: 168.2cpl
Price range over the last week: 131.9cpl – 169.9cpl
Only a tiny 0.1cpl dip in fuel prices for Darwin this week.
