While there is so much attention on fuel pricing at the moment, most retailers have opted to discount rather than hike up prices before the Easter break.  For Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, this has resulted in no new fuel price cycles – which would usually be the norm coming into a long weekend.

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 166.61cpl

Price range over the last week: 150.9cpl – 230.9cpl

Thanks to the further passing through of the fuel excise reduction, more wholesale price drops and competitors discounting petrol prices, Brisbane saw a huge drop in fuel prices this week.

Sydney

Current ULP average: 166.9cpl

Price range over the last week: 145.9cpl – 229.9cpl

Further down the East coast, excise reductions, wholesale price decreases and discounting amongst retailers have also led to a significant decrease in fuel prices in Sydney.

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 164.1cpl

Price range over the last week: 150.9cpl – 210.7pl

As per Sydney and Brisbane, Melbourne motorists were lucky to receive a huge fuel price drop just before the Easter long weekend due to competitor discounting, wholesale fuel price decreases and the passing through of further excise reductions.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 152.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 142.9cpl – 219.7cpl

Instead of experiencing a peak as part of the usual fortnightly fuel price cycle, Adelaide retailers opted to discount petrol prices this week.  Unleaded petrol across the city was the cheapest out of all the capital cities.

Perth

Current ULP average: 168.9cpl

Price range over the last week: 149.7cpl – 208.9cpl

For Perth, a low point in the current fuel price cycle is expected after the Easter long weekend, on Tuesday the 17th.

Darwin

Current ULP average: 184.6cpl

Price range over the last week: 179.5cpl – 199.9cpl

Compared to the other capitals across the country, there wasn’t much movement for petrol prices in Darwin.

Hobart

Current ULP average: 194.6cpl

Price range over the last week: 172.9cpl – 223.9cpl

Despite fuel prices dropping by over 12cpl over the past week, Hobart remains the most expensive capital for unleaded petrol.

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 196.1cpl

Adelaide – 188.0cpl

Brisbane – 196.4cpl

Darwin – 195.2cpl

Hobart – 201.6cpl

Melbourne – 192.5cpl

Perth – 191.1cpl

Sydney – 191.8cpl

Decreasing wholesale diesel prices could mean that there is further downward movement yet to come, albeit slowly when compared with ULP.

Wholesale trends

Wholesale petrol prices dropped this week, with average TGP prices decreasing by 5.2cpl.

Wholesale diesel prices also decreased this week, with average TGP prices dropping by 4.4cpl.
