The threat of oil and gas supply restrictions are severely impacting crude and finished product prices – so retail fuel prices are taking yet another beating. Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane have all entered new price cycles, and if it wasn’t for the current fuel excise relief, these cities would be posting record-high average prices. 

 

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 190.3cpl

Price range over the last week: 164.9cpl – 219.9cpl

Average unleaded petrol prices hit the 219.9cpl mark last week in Brisbane, as the new price cycle begun.  Around 30% of retailers across the city were posting this peak fuel price as of Monday this week.

 

Sydney

Current ULP average: 190.9cpl

Price range over the last week: 165.7cpl – 229.9cpl

Sydney was pretty much a mirror image of Brisbane, with roughly 30% of sites posting a 219.9cpl fuel price this week.

 

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 201.6cpl

Price range over the last week: 156.9cpl – 220.6cpl

Melbourne is currently the highest priced city of the capitals in terms of the average price of ULP, with around 70% of retailers posting a fuel price of 215.9cpl this week.

 

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 178.2cpl

Price range over the last week: 169.7cpl – 219.7cpl

There is a downward trend for fuel prices in Adelaide this week coming off last week’s cycle peak, however with wholesale prices on the way up, there may very well be another peak within the coming week.

 

Perth

Current ULP average: 177.4cpl

Price range over the last week: 162.7cpl – 199.9cpl

Fuel prices in Perth are due to peak at around the 210cpl mark next Wednesday (18th), so motorists should take advantage of bottom of the cycle pump prices now.

 

Darwin (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 192.0cpl

Price range over the last week: 131.9cpl – 193.9cpl

Higher average fuel prices in Darwin reflected the wholesale price increases, with further upward movement imminent.

 

Hobart (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 194.8cpl

Price range over the last week: 168.9cpl – 219.9cpl

As per the situation in Darwin, wholesale fuel prices are driving up current petrol prices, with more increases to come.

 

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 205.6cpl

Adelaide – 207.5cpl

Brisbane – 210.6cpl

Darwin – 208.9cpl

Hobart – 218.9cpl

Melbourne – 208.7cpl

Perth – 205.6cpl

Sydney – 208.3cpl

 

Hobart experienced a large 7cpl increase in diesel prices this week, with all other capitals holding steady.

 

Wholesale trends

Wholesale petrol prices rose this week, with average TGP prices increasing by 4.6cpl.

Wholesale diesel prices decreased his week, with average TGP prices slightly dropping by 1.5cpl.
