Wholesale prices increased significantly over the past week –  which means the likelihood of fuel discounting in the near future is slowly diminishing.  This will reflect in new price cycle trends across the country, which are now set to occur sooner rather than later.

Brisbane

Current ULP average: 180.4cpl

Price range over the last week: 163.0cpl – 210.9cpl

Wholesale fuel price jumps have resulted in slow discounting trends from retailers across Brisbane.

Sydney

Current ULP average: 179.4cpl

Price range over the last week: 158.5cpl – 229.9cpl

Again, very slow movements on petrol prices in Sydney this week – most retailers only decreased fuel prices by around 5.5cpl.

Melbourne

Current ULP average: 173.7cpl

Price range over the last week: 157.9cpl – 212.0cpl

The fast jump in wholesale fuel prices has caused retailers in Melbourne reluctant to to make any significant changes to pump prices this week.

Adelaide

Current ULP average: 187.1cpl

Price range over the last week: 154.9cpl – 219.7cpl

While a small number of retailers have retained pump prices in the 160’s, this will not be the case for much longer.  The new average peak fuel price of 203.9cpl is the norm for the majority of service stations around the city at the moment, and the current trend will see petrol prices increase even further.

Perth

Current ULP average: 181.0cpl

Price range over the last week: 155.3cpl – 203.7cpl

Petrol prices in Perth are midway through the current fuel price cycle, with the low point due around next Tuesday.

Darwin (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 187.7cpl

Price range over the last week: 131.9cpl – 189.9cpl

Only a slight increase in average fuel prices in Darwin this week, however this will be short lived as rising wholesale prices will be sure to drive up petrol prices even more.

Hobart (no price cycle)

Current ULP average: 188.5cpl

Price range over the last week: 163.9cpl – 219.9cpl

Wholesale fuel price increases will continue to cause a rise in pump prices across Hobart.

Retail diesel prices

Current Diesel averages:

ACT – 206.8cpl

Adelaide – 205.1cpl

Brisbane – 205.3cpl

Darwin – 207.7cpl

Hobart – 211.8cpl

Melbourne – 203.0cpl

Perth – 200.5cpl

Sydney – 203.6cpl

As per the usual trends with diesel, increases in wholesale prices caused an increase in retail prices across the country.

Wholesale trends

Wholesale petrol prices rose this week, with average TGP prices increasing steadily by 10.2cpl.

Wholesale diesel prices also increased this week, with average TGP prices significantly rising by 11.0cpl.
