The New WEX Summer Intern Program

Over the past few months, I’ve been talking to schools across New England about the new WEX Summer Intern Program. I’ve had a lot of fun learning from others and sharing the details of our program.

At WEX, we know that our success is created by the passion, creativity, drive, and competitive spirit of our amazing employees. Many of the students that I have engaged with in my travels embody these same ideals. WEX is very excited to have a program dedicated to attracting and retaining this type of talent.

So, how are interns selected? What does it take to get accepted? What will the summer look like for me if I am in the program? Today’s blog is dedicated to answering these questions.

How do I get selected?

Half of our students are selected on site, at career fairs. Each spring, we visit a number of campuses for the sole purpose of meeting students in person. We come prepared with business leaders who are ready to interview and potentially extend offers to eligible students.

Can’t make your school’s career fair? We are happy to accept your application through our online process.

All candidates will be asked about academic performance, leadership (in and out school) and examples of innovation and creativity. Please come prepared with an understanding of the company, dress professionally, and bring your most passionate self to the interview. The questions will be both challenging and a bit unconventional.

What will my summer look like at WEX?

The WEX Summer Intern Program is a structured 10 week program that consists of challenging and engaging daily work, formal internal learning and networking opportunities, external networking, philanthropy and fun.

The program begins May 22 and ends July 28.  Applications are accepted through March 6 or until the program is full – whichever comes first. All decisions will be communicated on or before March 29.

You will support real business projects, participate in formal weekly learning events, and have the opportunity to build and deliver some very specific programs … like a special speaker series event. Between intern cams, contests, volunteering and good food, you will have plenty of fun sprinkled throughout your challenging program. The summer is capped off with a formal project presentation and food truck celebration. Did I mention we like to eat here?
