EV Support

Our solution provides a broad range of capabilities, however, broadly the solution fits into 3 categories;

1. Roaming – the EV solution will provide access to over 720,000 chargers across Europe via the EV Driver by WEX app, RFID card or Plug&Charge.

2. Home Charging – we have partnered with providers who are able to supply and install charging hardware to customer’s homes. Once onboarded, the charging session data will then be visible in your EV charging management portal allowing Fleet Managers to view session data which has taken place at home.

3. Depot Charging – we work with a number of specialist installers who are able to provide large scale infrastructure installations for customers requiring charging on their premises. These charging sessions will then be visible in your EV charging management portal.

En route, or on-the-go, refers to public electric vehicle charging that happens on roadsides, at retail locations, at designated charging facilities, and more.

Plug&Charge is the ability to set up the vehicle as the payment authentication device. This means that drivers will be able to simply plug the vehicle in, which will then communicate with your EV charging management portal and start the charging session. This avoids the need to use either the app or the RFID to start a charging session.

Our en-route subscription grants you access to a vast and ever-expanding network of charging stations. You can currently plug in at over 720,000 locations across Europe, with new stations being added all the time.

Tip: To find the most up-to-date information on charging points along your route, simply use the handy EV Driver by WEX app.

Once an account has been set up, please download the EV Driver by WEX app to locate available public charging stations. Users can filter search criteria by speed AC/DC, connector type, availability, CPO and more.

You will receive login credentials to our EV Driver by WEX app. The app will allow you to navigate to chargers, start/stop a charging session and see historical usage. The app is intuitive and will be familiar to drivers who are used to using EV charging apps. In addition, a WEX-branded charging card can also be ordered via your EV charging management portal. The card will allow your drivers to simply plug in and tap their card on the card reader to start a charging session. Please bear in mind that not all chargers will have an RFID card reader so we would recommend using the app wherever possible.

Controls such as total spend or transactions per day are available to set up in your EV charging management portal platform.

Home charging solutions can be ordered via our partner who will be able to supply chargers, co-ordinate the install, onboard the charger to our platform and provide an audit trail of the installation. When you order a charge point we will invite the driver to carry out a virtual survey of the property. Once this has been completed a quote will be created. Once this has been accepted a standard installation will usually take place within around 2 weeks.

For depot charging we work with specialist partners who are able to provide custom installations based on your specific requirements. If you are looking at depot charging then please let us know and we can work with you to make introductions.

We are able to onboard the majority of smart charging hardware. We are constantly adding new hardware to our platform, so if your hardware isn’t listed please let us know. A list of compatible hardware is below;

Here’s how you can take advantage:

Mixed Energy Fleets: For businesses with a combination of electric and traditional vehicles, our EV subscriptions are offered to run alongside our WEX Card or Esso Card™ fuel cards. This provides a unified provider and single credit line for both EV and traditional fuel payments. While you will have separate portals to efficiently manage EV and fuel transactions, and receive distinct invoices for clarity, the overall integration with WEX ensures streamlined and coordinated fleet management.

Electric-Only Fleets: Operating a fully electric fleet? No problem! Our EV subscriptions are also available as a standalone offering.

EV transactions will be collated and invoiced together to give you a single bill showing all transactions that have taken place over a defined period.

An electronic record of the transaction will be available in your EV charging management portal and a user’s charging session data will be available in the EV Driver by WEX app.

Demand for EV fleet services has significantly increased since 2020, particularly in Europe. This is being driven by the market’s response to pan-European climate change policies. In most European fleet markets, there are significant financial benefits (fuel & operational cost savings) as well as incentives (subsidies & tax breaks) in place that are accelerating the rate of transition to EVs. To retain existing customers and to participate in medium and large tenders, it is now essential that WEX is able to offer an EV solution alongside our current fuel card offering as well as an EV only solution for electric only fleets.
