2019 was another exciting year at WEX. On Inside WEX, some of our top stories were about mergers and acquisitions, the opening of our beautiful, state-of-the-art new corporate headquarters, WEX’s certification as a Great Place to Work® for a third consecutive year, and our Executive Leadership team representing WEX as thought leaders in the industry. In 2020, we look forward to both continuing the excellent work we have done for more than 36 years – and to the expansion of our portfolio into new arenas.
2020 marks the beginning of another decade of WEX creating game-changing solutions for every business. As we kick-off the new year, let’s take one last look at the Top 5 Inside WEX blog posts of 2019:
Our CEO Melissa Smith was featured in two industry publications in 2019, Fast Company and Forbes. She was also tapped for a white paper produced by the Project Management Institute. The Fast Company article covered in broad brush strokes how the business world will change in 2019 and Smith was tapped for her insights including how the #MeToo movement will likely impact business in the coming year. For Forbes, Smith discussed managing disruptive technologies and how these technologies impact people, projects, work, culture, and strategy.
WEX kicked off 2019 by acquiring Discovery Benefits, Inc. in January. Discovery Benefits is a high-growth employee benefits administrator to more than one million consumers across all 50 states. WEX also helped launch a new intelligent, voice-activated chatbot for travel—Halo Travel—that we launched with AI.io and that’s powered by Priceline Partner Network.
Forbes featured WEX Chief Human Resources Officer, Melanie Tinto, in the article, “Top 6 Job Search Myths Busted.” Tinto provided tips for today’s job-hunters, using her insights to debunk six common job-search myths. Some of the topics Tinto covered: Should you limit your resume to a single page? Should you optimize it for the Applicant Tracking System? What role should your LinkedIn profile play in your hunt?
On March 8, WEX celebrated the completion of our new global headquarters at 1 Hancock Street in Portland, Maine, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by more than 150 people, including Maine public servants U.S. Senator Susan Collins and Governor Janet Mills. The new space includes state-of-the-art technology and a focus on employee wellness. Stay tuned for a follow-up Inside WEX article in 2020 on our new headquarters providing a deep dive into the employee wellness aspect of the new building’s design.
