Living in Portland, Maine—with its charming cobblestone streets and 67 inches of annual snowfall all but guaranteeing a white Christmas—certainly makes the holiday spirit easier to come by. But at WEX, which proudly calls Portland home, we also try to help our employees embrace the season of giving by ramping up our philanthropic efforts and office gatherings and doling out sweet treats.
Here’s a taste of what’s happening at our headquarters this month:
Each year, our employees sponsor a Giving Tree to support local charities—this year it’s the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) and Maine Children’s Cancer (MCCP) programs. We encourage employees to select a card from the tree, which was on display at our November All Company meeting, and to purchase items like books, games, baby blankets and onesies to fill our Giving Trunk.
As you may have noticed the past two weeks, our executive assistants throughout the building have set up stations on each floor, with spreads of holiday cookies, candy canes and other treats intended to spread holiday cheer. We hope you’ve been helping yourself!
On the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 19, we served coffee, cocoa and donuts from Tony’s Donut Shop in our cafe. Employees were encouraged to wear festive garb, and their outfits didn’t disappoint. We also hosted a seasonal employee luncheon later that day. As a neat twist, our executives, in a display of gratitude, serve this lunch to employees each year. On this year’s menu: prime rib and all of the fixings, as well as assorted pies and other desserts.
We’d like to wish all of our employees and partners a happy and healthy holiday season. We look forward to the great things to come in the new year, and to working with you all to make them happen.
