Working in international business was a goal that Kimberly Hendry noted in her high school yearbook – a goal that she’s achieved since joining WEX in 2007. When Kimberly first arrived in a risk management role, the company had no international subsidiaries. Her career has grown exponentially with WEX to now include the management of teams in London, Melbourne, Singapore, and other global locales.
A big part of Hendry’s role at WEX is managing a variety of risk components for the business. As you might imagine, her work can often involve initiating difficult conversations – a skill she’s been honing over the years. Her attitude and acumen for tackling tough situations have been key factors in her rise through the company.
“It’s important to remember that it’s probably not going to be as hard as you think it is, and ultimately you’ll be glad you had the conversation when it’s over,” Hendry says. “I wish I had learned earlier in my career not to take things personally, as it can create obstacles in your day-to-day interactions and detracts from your overall work experience.”
Each month, The Glass Hammer featured the stories and achievements of female WEX employees to help women in the professional world reach higher in their careers.
The Glass Hammer was founded as a career resource for professional women. The site provided advice, coaching, and networking opportunities for professional women, namely in finance, technology, and banking. As a sponsor of The Glass Hammer, WEX contributed monthly to this immensely helpful, highly valuable resource for women as they reached higher in their careers and lives.
