WEX Australia in the Community

A core value for the global WEX family is to strive to be a positive force in our world. WEXers around the world give back to their local communities in an astonishing number of ways. At WEX Australia, the giving back committee works to hold a charity or volunteer event each month to support local organizations. Recently, WEXers in our Melbourne office tapped into our volunteer paid time off program to spend the day helping out at St Kilda Mums.

St. Kilda Mums is a Melbourne-based charity that rehomes new and “pre-loved” baby goods and nursery equipment to families in need. The WEX Australia team spent the day sorting through baby clothing and accessories, grouping them according to gender and age, as well as cleaning car seats, prams and other items. Everything was then packaged and stored for distribution to local families.

“The volunteers from WEX Australia who joined us were vital to ensuring that we had prepared enough stock to meet all the urgent orders placed by social workers,” said Gill Whelan, partnerships manager at St Kilda Mums. “This meant that most of the items the team worked on were in the homes of families in need the following week – a baby had a safe place to sleep, a mum had a pram to walk with her children to the shops, a dad had a car seat to take his child to a doctor’s appointment.”

“St Kilda Mums is quite unique in that they gift high-quality and beautifully packaged goods to in-need recipients, and they rely heavily on volunteers to help sort through donated items,” said Bianca Bastone, a digital marketing coordinator at WEX who helped organize the volunteer effort. “The day was a great way to make a difference in our community while also connecting and collaborating with colleagues outside of the office.”
